you've been gone findingyou come back hailing smoke
and raining moss, hair unwilling
and a little crazed -
you are rifling through all the impossible questions
making philosophy professors chairs creak -
i can almost hear the pages
slither past.

you've been gone finding
         yourself.

all the
chalk-tongued chatterers
telling us This is how the world works
are laying thick
and clock sure -
         you swipe at this wildly
you are saying
with the life in your eyes,
study,
study with me:
         the raining

long nightcome, come what may; the night
is lean and our fingers are fat, candle
clay stubs wrapped round
wine bottle necks,
swapping lipstick with that cold wine
cold sweat -
tang of metal clanging round our
round mouths,
cistern of words that turn to lime
as soon as they are bleached out

come, come what will,
we say,
tumble up the yard
and into the morning
a barbeque growls into life

in the shadows, little ghouls
with the plum-meat of their eyes drawn down
and voices like wet cement being scritched,
scratch their feet

let's gosusurrous, the whispers you form
when you become citrus and star
shaped, ladling
those lightyear sheep, fishing for
words that bob and slip
before they sink
in;
we are, we are
free
you remind me
that we are, we are;
hawkish and sun-scorched,
diced and divided, pilgrims scurrying through
cement-swollen grocery stores with salmon-bone
shelves plying meat, boxed fruit and rectangle
cheeses and lines built to breathe all the same
way -
but we are, we
are free, you
remind me
of cinder-sky puddles and deserts
where the very stones are pilgrims,
the hand raised to fend off lemon light
and so makes a web -

we drive and drive,we drive and drive -
we go to the places
where the memories
have crusted over

in the well of this house
we visit you, swept away
in the yellowing of the walls -
trace a voice lynching sound
in the fissure near the front door,
walk slow and catch the carpet cracking ironies,
clunk, the snaking stagger of your wrinkles
stealing along cabinets, like spies,
so many roads,
we drive and drive,
i am you, but not you,
we are here together,
but a long time ago,
and your words
are smuttering
away in little
soup-streams;
i came to whisper to you
to push the eaves
away,
&#

the hungry look...the hungry look,

the wolves
weaving through
and around
the gully of your throat like wraiths,

we can feel you rusting, lost one;

i know that drainpipes and fenders
begin to crackle after winter wet

and that there’s a touch of snow
in all of us,

but no one,
no one could hold you as tightly as you do,
your whole body, bloodless in this arrest,

and if you will not let your fetters show
i will show you
there’s a place for going, and you haven’t gone there yet;

where quantum particles, once in contact, can retain a connection
even when separated

where you
wander up to a stranger
with your shirt inside-out
and say &lsq

turning over bucketsperhaps it isn't beautiful,
lying halfway underwater;

pouring your palladium hopes
down your hands
into buckets
looking full of shale and broken glass
        half lighting whiskey-paper on fire
with that sun tossing in your chest

and all of you rattling
in this thin-skinned pineapple percussion,
        the things you're so very sure of, sweltering under
callouses, under sea-
        a kaleidoscopic mass of stinging cider-riviera
twisting into your human frame;

but when i say something of protests
you break in,
        with too many pinecones waking in your chest, saying,
how lucky how
lucky we are
to be alive

LOVE the interplay of dark and light you captured here: the way the gentle hills of the background fade from existence into the fiery light; while the fore hill burns vividly dark in contrast with the sky. Very stunning.

Now THAT is a little spooky, I flipped a hedgehog right side up on sunday - my mother is a bit of an earth mother & feeds just about anything that flys, walks, or waddles onto her garden & a hedgehog was in her garden trying to negotiate the rocks around her pond & it,he,she - how do you tell? - i'm not 1 2 pry, toppled over. Crazy as a hedgehog....if only I was only that crazy! lol
